Jan, who was 27, newly married and looking forward to a settled life in leafy Surrey, experienced a monumental about-turn. Her husband had accepted a position in the oil industry, based in Dubai.
Dubai circa 1970, a relatively unknown desert kingdom with few buildings, a lot of sand and from a westerner’s perspective, hot as hell.
Catapulted from the cool green of England to the hot desert of the Arabian Gulf, thus began The Adventures of a Girl Wearing Pearls.
